SEOUL, Dec.10 (Korea Bizwire) – Even though morning temperatures have dropped below zero, with the increased popularity of spas and hot springs, sales of swim suits and rash guards are on the rise.
According to online shopping portal Auction (www.auction.co.kr), sales of swimwear during the first week of December leaped 169 percent compared to the same period last year.
The phenomenon is seen as resulting from an increase in the number of people traveling to hot springs as winter approaches. Sales of spa vouchers also showed a 30 percent increase over the same period.
Women’s swimsuits, which were unpopular during the summer season due to the popularity of bikinis, showed a 64 percent increase in sales. In contrast, sales of bikinis dropped three percent.
The sales of rash guards also increased 31 percent, as they can keep customers warm when they make use of outdoor Jacuzzis.
Men’s swimwear also saw an increase in sales.
Sales of speedos jumped 500 percent during the same period, and sales of swimming trunks also increased 48 percent.
Swimwear consisting of long sleeved tops and shorts also showed a 76 percent increase.
Reflecting the current social environment in which people travel in family units, sales of children’s swimwear and water toys increased 216 percent, and sales of beach/swimming pool towels soared, with growth of 427 percent.
