SEOUL, March 6 (Korea Bizwire) — A working-level Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting on food security was held in South Korea to discuss global food security, Seoul’s agriculture ministry said Thursday.
The three-day APEC policy partnership on food security took place in Gyeongju, about 275 kilometers southeast of Seoul, from Tuesday, with some 120 officials from 21 APEC member states in attendance, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
In the meeting, officials adopted “Driving Innovation in Agri-food Systems for Shared Prosperity” as the main agenda for the APEC Food Security Ministerial Meeting to be held in Songdo, about 40 kilometers west of Seoul, in August.
South Korea plans to host various APEC meetings in the country throughout the year as the host country of this year’s APEC summit, slated to be held in Gyeongju in November.
The ministry said the APEC road map on strengthening the region’s food security by 2030 was discussed during this week’s meeting.
