World’s Longest Sailing Ship Visits South Korean Port

BUSAN, Sept. 6 (Korea Bizwire) – The Esmeralda (BE-43) is the world’s longest sailing ship, and it made port at a naval base in the Korean city of Busan Tuesday morning. 

Weighing 3,763 tons, the Esmeralda was commissioned in 1954, and currently serves as a training ship for the Chilean Navy. The vessel is 110 meters long, 13 meters wide, and 48.5 meters tall. Today’s visit was part of a seven-month-long training mission around the world. 

Scheduled to depart on Saturday, the crew members will visit the Chinhae Naval Base and defense industry companies in South Gyeongsang Province, as well as the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Busan. A Chilean naval band will also be performing with a Korean naval band at Gwangalli Beach on Friday afternoon.
