Year-Round Beach Culture Blossoms at South Korea’s Mangsang Beach

South Korea, April 24 (Korea Bizwire) — Mangsang Beach in Donghae City, Gangwon Province—known for its expansive stretch of white sand the size of 25 soccer fields—is rapidly shedding its seasonal identity as a summer destination, transforming into a year-round hotspot for domestic tourism.

According to Donghae City officials on April 23, 2025, the beach, which traditionally drew millions of visitors during the peak summer season, now attracts visitors in all seasons thanks to an ambitious push to rebrand the area as a four-season coastal attraction.

망상해변2A striking red clock tower-style sign at the entrance has become a visual landmark, setting the tone for the beach’s evolving image. A centerpiece of this transformation is a large “gift box” installation that changes themes with each season and glows at night, becoming a viral hit across social media platforms.

The area is also growing into a hub for cultural and recreational events. In June, it will host the “Donghae Sky Race,” a trail running event offering scenic views of both mountain and sea. In the summer, the “Hip-Bada Hip-Hae” beach festival blends trot and hip-hop music, appealing to audiences across generations and securing its place as a signature event.

Mangsang’s culinary offerings have become a significant draw as well. While fresh seafood remains a staple, visitors can now dine on Italian cuisine and gelato with views of the ocean. Artisanal bakeries and cafes have also emerged as must-visit spots, turning the beach into a haven for “foodie travelers.”

The Mangsang Resort, equipped with caravans, traditional Korean hanok lodging, and pensions, has become one of the most sought-after accommodations in the country. Reservations remain in high demand throughout the year, regardless of the season.

망상해변3“Mangsang Beach has changed more dramatically this year than ever before,” said Lee Sun-woo, head of Donghae’s tourism division. “Its transformation into a four-season beach, combined with scenic night views, has made it a destination worth visiting anytime.”
