Yellow Crosswalks Coming to Child Protection Zones

SEOUL, Aug. 2 (Korea Bizwire)The National Police Agency said Monday it will change the color of all crosswalks within children protection zones from white to yellow for traffic safety.

Police explained that it will help drivers easily recognize that they’re entering a children protection zone.

The project, led jointly by seven municipal and provincial police agencies, will operate yellow crosswalks in 12 children protection zone for the next three months, to verify the visibility and effectiveness of the initiative.

Police, jointly with the Korea Road Traffic Authority, will study the effects of yellow crosswalks on drivers’ propensity to stop, as well as the rate that pedestrians adhere to crosswalk rules.

Switzerland has the lowest mortality rate in traffic accidents among all Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) states and has yellow crosswalks throughout the entire country.
