SEOUL, July 10 (Korea Bizwire) Yeogi”, a new gender equality library, will open on July 14, at Seoul Women’s Plaza in Daebang-dong, Dongjak-gu, Seoul, Korea. The library will hold material related to feminist movements, women’s policies and the changes made regarding gender equality.

The opening ceremony will be held on July 14 at 2pm with Seoul mayor Park Won-soon present.

After the opening ceremony, a special ‘Gender Talk’event will take place. The event has been scheduled to focus attention on the main events in the history of gender equality, such as the ‘Professor Shin Affair’ at Seoul National Universityin 1993, which was the first lawsuit filed forsexual harassment in the workplace, and the abolishment of the patriarchal family system in 2005.

Mayor Park, lawyer Kang Kum-sil and writer Gong Ji-young will participate. Mayor Park was one of the joint defense lawyers for the victim of the Professor Shin Affair.

Lee Hee-ho, director of the Kim Dae-jung Peace Center, will also participate in donating material.

To celebrate the opening, Sema Branch, the gallery inside the library, will exhibit works from the Seoul Museum of Artcreated by Chun Gyung-ja until July 20.

A special exhibition of Park Young-Sook, ex director of the Korean Women’s Foundation, and also known as the doyenne of feminism, will also be held.

Lee Sook-jin, head of Seoul Foundation of Women & Family says, “The ‘Yeogi’ gender equality library  will be the first space specialized for gender equality policies, connecting the past, present and future of gender equality. We hope the history of Seoul’s policies for women & family and gender equality will continue here.”
