SEOUL, Feb. 12 (Korea Bizwire) — Yuhan-Kimberly has verified the greenhouse gas reduction benefits of its hand towel recycling campaign, “Bicycle,” through a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), the company announced on February 12.
LCA is a comprehensive analysis method that quantifies the environmental impact of a product or service from raw material extraction through manufacturing, distribution, usage, disposal, and recycling. Yuhan-Kimberly evaluated the environmental impact of collecting, sorting, and compressing used hand towels and compared the results to traditional disposal methods.
The assessment found that recycling 10 metric tons of used hand towels reduces carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂eq) emissions by 10.35 metric tons compared to incineration—a reduction equivalent to the annual carbon absorption of approximately 1,137 pine trees aged 30 years.
Since launching the initiative in 2022, Yuhan-Kimberly has collaborated with over 40 institutions and businesses, recycling a total of 197 metric tons of hand towels. The company emphasized its ongoing commitment to sustainability and carbon reduction through resource circulation efforts.
“We will continue to work alongside stakeholders who share our vision for reducing carbon emissions through recycling,” said a Yuhan-Kimberly LCA specialist.
As corporate sustainability initiatives gain momentum, Yuhan-Kimberly’s findings reinforce the environmental benefits of innovative waste management strategies, setting a precedent for expanded resource recycling efforts in 2026 and beyond.
