SEOUL, Jul. 27 (Korea Bizwire) — Sanitary products company Yuhan-Kimberly announced on Wednesday it has decided to donate diapers to premature babies that weigh less than 2.2 kilograms.

As part of a new initiative beginning in August to raise awareness of and support premature babies, Yuhan-Kimberly will supply the company’s ‘Nature Made Premature’ diapers in size small free of charge.

Hospitals with a care center dedicated to premature infants will be able to benefit from the Korea-U.S. joint venture, while individuals can also apply to receive complimentary diapers through the company’s official shopping site, momQ.

“Around 6,000 people are expected to receive our complimentary diapers, which translates to six million diapers every year,” an official at Yuhan-Kimberly said.

As Yuhan-Kimberly is set to continue its efforts to support premature babies over the next few years in the form of free diapers and help create a social safety net for them, company officials will later decide whether to extend support for premature babies after three years.

According to figures from Korea Statistics from 2014, one in 15 babies in South Korea is born prematurely.

Against this backdrop, major medical institutions such as Samsung Hospital have raised funds in the past to help treat the medical conditions facing premature babies.
