SEOUL, Aug. 27 (Korea Bizwire)Companies value communication and cooperation skills the most in assessing their employees, a survey said Monday, a change from the past when employers wanted people who were willing to take on tough challenges.

The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry analyzed the web sites of 100 top local firms that cite wanted qualifications in their employees. Results showed that 63 of them named communication and cooperation as the most desired characteristics. Next were expertise (56 firms), principle and trust (49), challenging spirit (48), sense of company ownership (44), creativity (43), passion (33), global perspective (31) and ability to act (22).

According to the chamber, the results indicate a shift from a similar analysis five years ago when the most sought-after trait was willingness to tackle challenges. At the time, communication and cooperation skills ranked 7th.

The results differed slightly by industry. For instance, manufacturing firms cited communication and cooperation as the most-wanted characteristics, but wholesale, retail, trade and logistics firms rated expertise as the highest quality. Financial and construction firms, on the other hand, preferred sense of company ownership by employees.
