SEOUL, Mar. 31 (Korea Bizwire) — LG Electronics Inc. said Sunday it will release V50 ThinQ, its first 5G smartphone with a detachable second screen, in South Korea on April 19 with a competitive price tag.
V50 ThinQ’s 128 GB model will be priced at 1.2 million (US$1,054) in the domestic market, cheaper than Samsung Electronics’s Galaxy S10 5G 256 GB that costs 1.39 million won.
The electronics maker, which has posted deficits in the mobile business since 2017, said it focused on lowering the 5G device’s sales prices to break down barriers in the initial stage.
“V50 ThinQ’s price is unusually low considering that it costs more to make 5G smartphones than 4G devices, to install 5G modem, antenna and other additional equipment,” LG said in a release.
Those who buy V50 ThinQ up till the end of May will get a dual screen accessory for free, whose retail price is 219,000 won, the firm said.
The phone, with a 6.4-inch OLED full vision display, is equipped with a 4,000 mAh battery, 20 percent larger than its previous model, and uses vapor chamber technology to better disperse heat that can impair the performance of cutting-edge phones.
Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 chipset, along with X50 5G modem, will power the V50 to support high-resolution games and data-heavy applications without latency.
The tech firm said the dual screen will maximize the user experience by offering more options for augmented and virtual reality and allow a different-level multitasking experience of the device.
LG revealed the new device’s price range as Samsung’s Galaxy S10 5G model is set to hit shelves on April 5, which will be the first 5G smartphone in the world.
