Samsung Electronics Opens ‘Junior Software Academy’

SEOUL, Korea, July 25 (Korea Bizwire) – Samsung Electronics will open the ‘Junior Software Academy’ for students from elementary school to high school to foster the next generation of software specialists. The ‘Junior Software Academy’ aims to improve students’ logical thinking and enhance their problem-solving abilities, and in the long-term broaden the base for software training and cultivate creative individuals.

The academy’s main programs include software training in after-school classes and clubs, ‘Software Camp’ during vacations to experience various software, and ‘Software Competitions’ and ‘Junior Software Membership’ to stimulate the learning process.

A 12-year-old participant Kang Ji-woo said, “Although I saw programming for the first time, it was easy and fun to learn by moving a robot. Through this camp, I have decided to grow up and become a doctor that builds humanoid robots that play the piano for patients.”

Samsung Electronics plans to offer learning opportunities at the ‘Junior Software Academy’ to more than 40,000 students by 2017. More than 600 students of all ages will be attending after-school classes this fall at more than 30 schools in the Seoul, Gyunggi-do, and Incheon area, while Mobile Software Camps will be run for students in remote regions.

In addition through cooperation with company executives, employees, and academic software specialists, Samsung also plans to develop specialized curriculum, textbooks, and other teaching aids to increase interest in software and foster creative problem-solving abilities.
