SEOUL, Aug. 20 (Korea Bizwire)Cosmetics maker Kolmar Korea Co. is on track to develop new products using eco-friendly materials as part of its environmental, social and governance (ESG) efforts.

The company said Thursday that it had entered into an agreement with eco-friendly materials manufacturer Roots Lab to develop a string of new cosmetics and toothpastes using pear stone cells, adding that the newly-developed products will be released by the end of the year at the earliest.

Under terms of the agreement, Kolmar Korea will be exclusively supplied with product development-related technologies from Roots Lab.

At present, the company has completed the formulation of sample design and conducted skin experiments using pear stone cells.

Pear stone cells are the material that gives pears a gritty texture in the mouth when they are consumed. Stone cells are contained mainly in pear skin or the core in the middle of the pear.

Stone cells have the effect of removing dirt and foreign substances in pores. Accordingly, they can be used as raw materials in the production of exfoliators and face cleansing products.

Kolmar Korea noted that stone cells also can be used as a replacement for mild abrasives in toothpaste since they have an excellent abrasion effect.
