SUWON, Aug. 20 (Korea Bizwire) — Gyeonggi Province’s government has acquired a patent for a hands-free wireless communication device designed especially for firefighting helmets, a first in South Korea.
The provincial government said Thursday that it applied for patent rights for the “wireless communication device for firefighting helmets and the method of sending voice signals” in May last year, and it was recently registered as patent by the Korea Intellectual Property Office.
The device allows hands free operation for firefighters in emergencies such as fire and rescue by eliminating the need to control their radios with their hands.
The helmet-mounted communication device enables wireless communication simply through voice recognition.
The provincial government signed an agreement with the Advanced Institute of Convergence Technology in June 2018 and, has been engaged in the development of safety devices for firefighters using state-of-the-art information and communication technology.
In accordance with the patent registration, the provincial government expects the patented technology to contribute to promoting the development and distribution of wireless communication equipment.
After developing a second trial product and complementing its function through a field trial, the provincial government plans to release a high-performance finished product by June 2022.
