SEOUL, March 13 (Korea Bizwire)The Korea National Park Service announced that it is going to place an entry ban on Geomundo Island’s seashore rocks for the preservation of the local ecosystem.

The entry ban will be imposed over seashore rocks contaminated by fishing and marine leisure activities for a designated period for the recovery of the local ecosystem and landscape.

An entry ban imposed on Geomundo’s Seo (west) Island for a year from September 2019 showed that the local ecosystem recovered considerably from contamination.

Over the course of the entry ban, the overall contamination level of the seashore rocks, assessing the amount of marine trash in the area, dropped from 10.3 points to 6.5 points.

The population density of local marine life jumped from 5.54 animals to 8.77 animals per square meter.

The National Park Service plans to impose entry bans on the seashore rocks at four islands near Dadohae National Marine Park and Hallyeohaesang National Park for at least three years.
