GOYANG, Jan. 4 (Korea Bizwire) –Ilsan Lake Park in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, a popular destination attracting over 100,000 visitors daily, has maintained first-class water quality even during abnormal high-temperature weather conditions.
According to the city on January 3, despite the severe algae bloom observed nationwide in waterside parks due to last summer’s record-breaking heatwave, the water quality of Ilsan Lake Park remained close to first-class. August of last year experienced 11 days with maximum temperatures exceeding 33 degrees Celsius, the highest number since 2018.
Ilsan Lake Park, Korea’s first artificial lake constructed in 1997 on a 300,000 square meter site, holding 453,000 cubic meters of water, owes its high water quality to eco-friendly management practices.
The city formed a dedicated Waterside Park Team for park water quality management, which regularly removed various sediments, fallen leaves, garbage, and floating debris from the lake bottom ranging from 50 centimeters to 3 meters deep.
The city opted for a bottom-cleaning approach rather than complete drainage, thereby preserving the lake’s natural ecosystem while maintaining clean water quality.

The clear visibility of the lake’s gravel bottom is a testament to the effective maintenance and water quality of Ilsan Lake Park.
Furthermore, the installation of nano bubble facilities in the lake, which increase dissolved oxygen levels without the use of chemical agents for sediment purification, has contributed to algae prevention and water quality improvement.
As a result, mallards and ducks that previously only inhabited natural lakes have begun to flock to Ilsan Lake Park. This has led cities nationwide with large artificial lakes, such as Daegu and Gwangju, to benchmark Ilsan Lake Park’s water management methods.
Ilsan Lake Park is also famous for its 4.7 km bicycle path, 9.1 km walking path, ecological nature learning center, sculptural artworks, cactus exhibition hall, and hosts events such as the Goyang International Flower Expo, Autumn Flower Festival, and Lake Art Festival.
Meanwhile, the city plans to invest 350 million won from this month until March to refurbish aging water treatment facilities to increase the purification capacity of water flowing into Ilsan Lake Park from the Jayang water intake station in Seoul.
