SEOUL, Nov. 27 (Korea Bizwire) – South Korea’s KT Corp. announced on Tuesday its plan to revolutionize network management by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) technology into its operational systems.
The move comes as the telecommunications giant faces potential service gaps following the voluntary departure of 2,800 employees in a recent restructuring effort.
KT unveiled two AI-powered systems—AI Meister and AI Operator—on November 26, designed to enhance efficiency and ensure stable network operations.
AI-Powered Network Management
AI Meister serves as a conversational AI assistant that provides diagnostic insights and operational guidance. According to KT, the system allows even employees with limited network management experience to perform at an expert level. It processes vast amounts of network data in real-time, enhancing service stability and responsiveness.
AI Operator focuses on field operations, streamlining the physical management of network equipment. Incorporating feedback from outdoor technicians, KT plans to enhance the system with a Speech-to-Text (STT) function, enabling voice-based inputs to replace manual data entry.
Future Applications and Expansion
Currently applied to core wired network equipment, AI Meister will eventually expand to wireless and other network domains. The AI systems will autonomously monitor traffic and detect anomalies, proactively addressing issues by diagnosing root causes and implementing solutions in real-time.
KT’s Network Operations Division head, Oh Taek-kyun, emphasized the company’s commitment to becoming a leader in AI-powered ICT solutions. “By integrating AI into network operations, we aim to pioneer the future of telecommunications,” he said.
Strategic Shift Amid Workforce Reduction
KT’s announcement aligns with its broader strategy to offset operational disruptions from its recent workforce restructuring. The company aims to modernize its processes through advanced IT systems, ensuring consistent service quality while adapting to a leaner organizational structure.
This initiative highlights KT’s efforts to position itself at the forefront of AI and telecommunications innovation, addressing immediate operational needs while laying the groundwork for a more resilient network infrastructure.
