SEOUL, Jun. 23 (Korea Bizwire) — Web portal operator Daum Kakao is set to introduce a service which enables the government, companies and the press to write comments for online news articles through official commenting channels specially dedicated to them.
Named ‘Official Comments,’ the service will start in the third quarter of the year, after receiving submissions from companies, press and governmental bodies, according to Daum Kakao on June 22.
These Official Comments can be used by the government or companies to clarify or dispute claims made in articles, with official IDs distributed by Daum Kakao.
Comments made through the Official Comments service will also move with an article when it is shared on SNS.
A Daum Kakao representative said that members of the press who participated in a pilot program for Official Comments gave positive responses to the service.

It is reported that Naver is also considering introducing a similar service. However, Naver said it understands that the service might result in possible suppression of the press.
Daum Kakao and Naver presented details about their service at a governmental meeting held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on June 11.
