YEONCHEON, South Korea, May 4 (Korea Bizwire) – The 25th Yeoncheon Jeongok-ri Paleolithic Festival kicked off on Wednesday for the Children’s Day weekend, featuring various performances and participatory events.
Among over a dozen events on offer at the festival are a Paleolithic barbeque session, where visitors enjoy barbeque grill cooking the ancient way; a Paleolithic village that offers insight into Paleolithic cultures from 11 different countries such as Taiwan and Italy; and other primeval programs like cave painting and stone age archery for visitors to partake in.
The five-day festival is taking place at the Jeongok-ri Prehistoric Site, which was discovered when U.S. soldier Greg Bowen stumbled upon prehistoric hand axes in 1978, proving the existence of a hand axe culture in East Asia dating back 300,000 years.
Yeoncheon County started hosting the Paleolithic festival in 1993.
