SEOUL, Dec. 11 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean government officials announced plans on Sunday for a certification system that will help protect South Korean products exported to China and crack down on counterfeit goods.
The move comes after the Korea Trade Network (KTNET), the country’s paperless trade platform provider, signed a business agreement with the China Electronics Chamber of Commerce last week for a product authentication service for South Korean products sold in China.
According to the KTNET, in recent years products from South Korean companies have been discredited with some even trailing behind Chinese rip-off products in sales, and the new measure has been designed to address the issue.
The KTNET says the new business agreement will help improve and protect the brand trust of South Korean products among Chinese customers, a move that should help to boost sales as a result.
The new authentication service will be on available on WeChat, a Chinese messaging app with over 100 million users.
“Through the business agreement, we hope to see South Korean small and medium sized companies avoid competing with Chinese rip-offs and have their true value recognized,” a KTNET official said.
