ULSAN, Jul. 9 (Korea Bizwire)Administrators at the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) have revealed that the institution for higher learning is currently co-hosting a research internship program with Harvard University’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences for the second year in a row.

The UNIST-Harvard SEAS Summer Program enables students from both institutions to travel to the other to conduct research and gain a better understanding of the other’s cultures through the exchange.

UNIST is the only South Korean university that currently has an exchange program with Harvard’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

This year, five students from each school, for a total of 10 students, are participating in the program. The research topic for this year is “solar cell” and “experiments on storing energy.”

Students participating in the program spent 10 days at Harvard from June 25 to July 3 to study with Harvard Prof. Fawwaz Habbal, who gave lectures on the concept of solar cells. Students participated in experiments that had them producing actual solar cells.

The students then travelled to South Korea on July 5, where they will be studying with Prof. Seo Kwan-yong at UNIST until the 13th of the month.

Heo Da-yeon, a student at UNIST, said that she was moved by experiencing a culture in which students exchanged ideas freely.

“Good communication and the co-existence of diversity is at the core of great academic research,” said Heo when asked about her thoughts on her experience during the summer program so far.
