SEOUL, Apr. 24 (Korea Bizwire) — More and more South Koreans are buying beauty devices at home without going to dermatology or skin care centers, and choosing instead to take care of their own looks.
Shopping portal Auction reported on Tuesday that sales of some home beauty device products jumped 55-fold in the month of March 13 to April 14, compared to the same period a year earlier.
Behind the increase is the fact that devices used at home can be managed easily and relatively cheaply, and the need to take care of skin that is frequently exposed to fine dust and ultraviolet light has increased as spring approaches.
When looking at the sales of each item, sales of LED masks were 55 times higher than last year.
Using the principle that LED wavelengths penetrate the skin and activate collagen and elastin, the masks have recently been selling like hotcakes in that they can save time and money to visit dermatology clinics, despite relatively high prices.
Nail dryers, which are used for nail management, also saw their sales rate triple as the weather got warmer.
This supports the growing number of people who don’t go to nail shops and want to take care of their nails themselves at home.
Sales of laser hair removal devices, which disable hair follicles, also increased by 52 percent.
This is because hair removal can be done at any time of the year and thus reduces the amount of effort required by regular visits to dermatologists.
As an official from Auction put it, major buyers of home beauty devices have also recently moved from middle-aged women in the past to young women, students and men.
