SEOUL, Jun. 14 (Korea Bizwire) — The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will launch a search engine service to make it easier for anyone to check items that can be brought on board commercial aircraft.
The ministry said Thursday that it will provide a search engine service for people to check items before boarding.
Thus, passengers can distinguish which items should go into checked luggage and which items should be taken on board.
The information service is available on avsec.ts2020.kr, an Aviation Security Voluntary Reporting System operating under the website of the Korea Transportation Safety Authority.
For example, if a user enters “knife” in a search window, 31 types of knives will be presented.
If one of the 31 knives are selected, then the service offers information about whether or not it can be brought on board or go into checked luggage.
Basically, the criteria for possession of an item according to the information provided on the website are regulations that apply when going abroad from a South Korean airport.
If one looks at the search results of items that are often confusing to users, Swiss Army knives cannot be brought on board and must be sent in checked baggage.
Disposable lighters and e-cigarettes, on the contrary, can be carried on board, but cannot be loaded in the luggage compartment.
However, if you travel to China, it should be noted that disposable lighters are not only prohibited at Chinese airports inside checked luggage, but are also banned from being brought onboard.
The service is available to foreigners with English explanations.
Furthermore, the list of items frequently confiscated during airport security searches is reflected on the website every quarter, providing the most useful information to passengers.
Meanwhile, according to ministry, more than 3 million banned items were confiscated at Incheon International Airport last year.
