SEOUL, Aug. 2 (Korea Bizwire) — The city of Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, with plans to establish an industrial complex for semiconductors, is looking into the best practices of companies in the Silicon Valley.
Yongin mayor Baek Kun-ki visited the cities of San Jose and Santa Clara in California from July 29 to 31 to discuss strategies for attracting investment and business growth.
On July 30, Baek visited Google headquarters and Nvidia, a leading graphics card manufacturer and artificial intelligence (AI) tech firm, to learn about the most recent trends in technology and discuss possible areas of cooperation.
The mayor visited San Jose, known as the capital of the Silicon Valley, the following day to see how the city became a startup landmark after nurturing more than 80,000 new businesses.
San Jose, with a population similar to Yongin, is one of the world’s largest corporate cities where headquarters of multinational corporations including Cisco, eBay, and IBM are located.
Baek also visited the Device Solutions Division of Samsung Electronics Co. and SK hynix Inc.’s Silicon Valley Branch to collect information on current trends in the global semiconductor industry and other related sectors.
“We were able to take a look at the best environment for business, development strategies, and vision during our visit to Silicon Valley,” said the mayor.
“We will turn Yongin into an attractive platform for semiconductors and other businesses.”
