SEOUL, Aug. 15 (Korea Bizwire) —SmartCara (smartcara.com), Korea’s No. 1 brand in food garbage disposal units, said on August 14 that it has won a CE certification with European Union authorities after earning a UL (Underwriters Laboratories) certification in America.
With the latest winning of the CE mark, the company is confident it will export the units to the European market, as well as the United States and Southeast Asia. The waste disposal units shipped to the North American market from early this year are currently sold in stores such as Costco and Linens ‘n Things.
In countries like Taiwan, sanitation trucks collect food garbage everyday driving around the neighborhood. But the residents find it hard to dispose of the garbage as the truck comes only at a certain time of the day. In Hong Kong where the government disposes of the food garbage in landfills, it is hard pressed to find additional sites for landfills. Other Southeast Asian countries such as Singapore and Malaysia are seeing the problem of food garbage steadily emerge as a serious issue.
Early this year, SmartCara has signed contracts with local importers in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia and began shipping the units. In addition, its garbage disposal units are currently undergoing safety tests in countries like Australia, Britain, and Switzerland.
According to the company, its garbage disposal units come equipped with an eco-filter that solves the problem of stench, the most prominent problem of the existing food disposal units. As it turns the wet food waste into completely dry powder, the food garbage shrinks to a tenth of the original volume.
