SEOUL, Aug. 20 (Korea Bizwire) – The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning announced on August 18 that transferring flexible and scalable nanopillar arrays on a variety of unconventional substrates including fabric, paper and metals is achieved by a joint research team of Dr. Lee Seok-jae from the National Nanofab Center and Prof. Nicholas Kotov at the University of Michigan in the U.S.
Transferring them on other materials has put a lot of researchers into difficulties as they have various attributes such as light scattering and reaction to other materials. But the research team achieved it by creating nanopillar-shaped silicon molds, covering them with a layer of polymer polyurethane, adding specific materials to it and irradiating ultra violet rays.
The achievement can be applied to various fields including wearable biosensors, smart gadgets or hypersensitive sensing.
The article, entitled “Scalable Nanopillar Arrays with Layer-by-layer Patterned Overt and Covert Images,” was published on August 6 on the website of Advanced Materials, a weekly scientific journal.
