SEOUL, Dec. 18 (Korea Bizwire) — Lotte Global Logistics Co., a logistics unit of South Korean retail giant Lotte Group, said Thursday it will expand the operation of eco-friendly cold chain electric trucks that provides temperature-controlled environments during transportation and storage.
After completing the trial operation of cold storage electric trucks in April and May, the company launched the official operation of three cold chain electric trucks in October, a first in South Korea.
The cold chain electric trucks do not emit gases at all since they only use electric energy.
The inside of the cold storage container maintains a pre-set temperature ranging from minus 20 degrees Celsius to 10 degrees Celsius whether the truck’s motors are on or off.
At present, Lotte Global Logistics operates a total of six cold chain electric trucks. It plans to increase the number of such trucks to 20 by the end of this year, 100 by next year and 200 by 2022.
On Wednesday, the company set up a dedicated charging station for the electric trucks at an online-exclusive shipment center run by Lotte Mart, another Lotte Group affiliate. The charging station can be used simultaneously by up to 10 electric trucks.
