SEOUL, Feb. 1 (Korea Bizwire) — As the coronavirus pandemic continues to drag on, schools in rural, agricultural towns are gaining popularity as an alternative for parents worried about their children being exposed to infections or unable to attend class.
Omcheon Elementary School, located in a rural town of Gangjin County, South Jeolla Province, currently teaches 36 students, eight of whom have transferred from the city.
Not a single COVID-19 infection has been reported in the county, adding to the preference of parents to send their children there.
These rural schools have fewer students, allowing for effective social distancing and a greater likelihood of in-person classes. Various offline projects, many of which cannot be replaced by online alternatives, can take place in these schools.
Hanjeon Elementary School, located in Yanggu County, Gangwon Province, made t-shirts for donations, as well as illustrated books to help those affected by the coronavirus.
Annae Elementary School, located in Okcheon County, North Chungcheong Province, brought all of its 38 students to a nearby town last year to decorate building walls with drawings and paintings.
