SEOUL, June 10 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Engineering Co., a plant construction unit of Samsung Group, said Wednesday that it had developed a next-generation three-dimensional printing technology for construction and succeeded in building a structure using the technology.
The company started developing the technology from late last year and succeeded in developing the 3D printing robot early this year.
The company recently completed performance tests for the 3D printing robot by making a trial structure.
Samsung Engineering expects the new technology to contribute to reducing the construction period for building structures, as well as improving both quality and safety.
In general, the 3D printing technology shortens the construction period for a building structure to about one tenth of the usual construction period.
In addition, 3D modeling is possible simply with information input without the need to separately make and print floor plans. It can help improve productivity, and is also environmentally friendly as it results in a reduction of the use of paper.
3D printing also eliminates the need for separate construction preparation processes, including the making of molds and the installation of temporary structures for construction, while minimizing the generation of construction wastes through efficient material input and management.
