SEOUL, July 15 (Korea Bizwire) — The National Police Agency (NPA) is introducing new unmanned surveillance equipment to reduce traffic violations commited by riders of motorcycles and other two-wheeled vehicles.
Last year, the NPA asked the Road Traffic Authority to develop new unmanned surveillance equipment that can locate and photograph license plates on vehicles, with the new device’s product standards to be set in September of this year.
The NPA has requested 2 billion won (US$1.75 million) in funding from the Ministry of Economy and Finance to fund next year’s test runs for some 40 unmanned surveillance devices at major intersections in metropolitan cities.
Unlike other vehicles, motorcycles have license plates attached to the rear only, undermining efforts to track down traffic violations by two-wheeled vehicles other than illegal parking.
