SEOUL, July 19 (Korea Bizwire) — Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) comissioner Jeong Eun-kyeong’s list of business spending in June is going viral on social media.
Business spending refers to expenses incurred by heads of government agencies in carrying out their public duties and responsibilities.
According to the expense report posted on the KDCA website, commissioner Jeong spent a total of 3,995,400 won (US$3,478) in June at 32 locations.
Most of the spending had to do with meetings or conferences related to the pandemic, and Jeong spent around 16,000 won per person.
The majority of the money was spent at Korean restaurants or snack bars located near the KDCA headquarters in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province.
Expenses were also reported at food vendors or bakeries near Seoul’s National Assembly and Seoul Station, most likely during business trips.
What was striking was that all of the food was ordered to go. Commissioner Jeong’s monthly business spending showed that she ordered all food to go not only in June but also in May and April.
In April and May, commissioner Jeong spent around 6,000 won per person at a cafe and a bakery to ‘encourage the members of the vaccination team.’
As the list went viral on social media, many netizens were seen sending their sympathies to the commissioner.
“I wish she’d have something better to eat,” one of the netizens said.
