SEOUL, Aug. 6 (Korea Bizwire) — Rising interest in pets is leading to a growing popularity of books on cats.
Yes24, a leading online bookstore, reported a 2.7 times increase in the number of books on cats, going from 60 books in 2010 to 160 in 2020.
This year, there have been 111 new publications that talk about cats as of July, already reaching 70 percent of last year’s record.
Sales of cat-related books also jumped by 30.2 percent last year, and another 46.5 percent early this year.
Primary buyers include customers in their 40s (48.3 percent) and 30s (28.2 percent). Women accounted for the majority of buyers at 62.2 percent.
Cat-related books are being published in various fields, ranging from books on cats’ physical features and tips on nutritious feeding to books about moving on after a cat’s passing.
