SEOUL, Sept. 9 (Korea Bizwire) — Donald Trump’s decision to put an end to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which has allowed approximately 800,000 illegal immigrants referred to as Dreamers who entered the country as minors to receive the benefit of deferred deportation, has aroused fierce anger among immigrants, and members of the Korean-American community are also raising their voices to demand the withdrawal of the decision.
A number of New York-based Korean-American organizations including the Association of Korean Residents in New York, the Civil Rights Center, and the Korean-American Community Service Center held a joint press interview before they heading out to the streets to protest against Trump’s inhumane decision.

The members of the organizations staged a rally in front of Trump Tower in Manhattan, and called for the withdrawal of the DACA repeal, while at the same time censuring the Trump administration. Additionally, they decided to conduct a campaign to send letters to Members of Congress as a means to push them into immediately passing the Dream Act that protects Dreamers.

“The repeal of DACA is an inhumane offense against the immigrant community. We will strongly condemn the act of the Trump administration by using means including sending letters,” said Laura Cheon, the chairwoman of the Association of Korean Residents in L.A.
