SEOUL, Dec. 20 (Korea Bizwire) — The government has revealed a list of people who have failed to pay child support after divorce for the first time.
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family unveiled the names of two people on its official website on Sunday who have failed to make child support payments to their ex-spouses.
It is the first time for the government to reveal the names after new legislation came into effect on July 13.
The ministry revealed the name, date of birth, occupation, workplace location, the delinquency period and the child support payments owed for the two individuals.
Other information including facial photos, however, was not revealed in accordance with the legislation.
Of the two listed people, one of them hadn’t paid 65.2 million won (US$54,675). The other had yet to pay 125.6 million won.
Despite incarceration orders from the court following the introduction of the new legislation, the two people have not yet paid child support.
The review committee is deliberating on nine more people whose names could be made public. The committee has sent a preliminary notification to these people, allowing them to make their testimonies.
The ministry, based on the committee’s decision, banned seven people from leaving the country on Dec. 16 for failing to pay child support and requested the revocation of driver’s licenses for 10 people.
