SEOUL, April 5 (Korea Bizwire) — Kakao Mobility Corp., South Korea’s leading taxi-hailing firm, on Monday unveiled how its artificial intelligence (AI) taxi allocation system works via its official website.
The site shows how each cab is hailed in various scenarios, how the AI uses a designated forecast model to reach customers faster, as well as the overall tech used in Kakao Mobility-affiliated taxis.
The company’s decision to unveil the details of its allocation system comes as a response to the rising social demand for transparency, taking preemptive action to engage with the members of the platform industry and prevent misunderstandings and concerns.
The AI taxi allocation system uses machine-learning technology to analyze some 30 variables including each hail’s time and date, and the driver’s driving patterns to ensure an optimal match between the driver and the customer.
The average hailing time of 14.1 seconds in 2019 dropped to 8.6 seconds in 2021 following the introduction of the AI allocation system, the company said.
