INCHEON, April 15 (Korea Bizwire)The Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education said Thursday it will launch a virtual reality (VR)-based safety education program for students living on islands during the period from April to November of this year.

The education will be offered to groups of fifth and sixth-grade students and middle and high school students at 12 schools in Ganghwa, Ongjin and Yeongjong islands.

As part of the program, educators will use about 30 VR devices to give 80 to 100 minute-long safety instruction sessions to each school.

This will enable students to experience a variety of disaster situations such as fire, earthquakes and ship accidents and get used to safety rules.

“For the schools involved, the program will be carried out during the first semester for Ganghwa Island and the second semester for Ongjin Island,” the education office said.

“This program will be available for older elementary school students and middle and high school students since lower grade elementary school students could have difficulty adapting to VR devices.”
