SEOUL, July 6 (Korea Bizwire) — Kakao Enterprise Corp., an artificial intelligence (AI) unit of the country’s largest mobile messenger operator Kakao Corp., ranked first in the kiosk category of the Face Recognition Vendor Test (FRVT) conducted by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology.
The FRVT is a globally-renowned facial recognition test that measures the performance of automatic facial recognition algorithms through a comparison of facial information.
The kiosk category is regarded as a particularly difficult area since it deals with images where the bottom half of the face is warped or images that cannot be seen clearly.
In addition, Kakao Enterprise ranked second in the border category, missing the first spot by only 0.0001 points. It also ranked fourth in both the visa border category and the mugshot category.
At present, the company is upgrading its facial recognition technology by setting up an unmanned convenience store equipped with an AI CCTV system within its head office.
If employees enter and pick up snacks or beverages at the unmanned convenience store, CCTV images enable the identification of each individual and the items that were taken.
