More than 10,000 Birds Killed in Collisions with Windows Every Year: Data

SEOUL, Nov. 15 (Korea Bizwire)More than 40,000 birds have died after running into glass and soundproof walls in the last four years, data showed Monday.

Naturing, an open platform for nature-watching, said that since July 2018, 3,497 of its members found 38,084 birds killed in collisions with glass buildings and transparent soundproof walls set up along highways.

Sorted by species, 5,651 turtledoves were killed, followed by 2,159 sparrows, 1,362 brown-eared bulbuls, 1,214 azure-winged magpies and 1,010 titmouses.

Endangered bird species like sparrowhawks (403), goshawks (134), falcons (53), eagle-owls (48) and fairy pitts (34) also succumbed to wall collisions.
