INCHEON, Nov. 17 (Korea Bizwire) — The Korea Coast Guard said Wednesday that drones have been deployed this year to crack down on illegal fishing activities by Chinese vessels across a wider area than before.
The Coast Guard purchased seven high-end drones and deployed them to seven large patrol ships this March.
Using drones has widened the scope of identification by a factor of 20 when cracking down on illegal activities by Chinese fishing vessels in the West Sea.
All videos taken by the drones are transmitted via the patrol ship and satellites in real-time to reach the situation room on land.
The Coast Guard plans to purchase eight additional drones for use on patrol ships by 2024 and introduce drones to all large vessels and police stations.
