SEOUL, March 9 (Korea Bizwire) — Money spent on one’s significant other for birthdays and anniversaries has jumped in the last 12 months, a survey showed Wednesday.
Matchmaking agency Gayeon conducted a survey of 1,000 single men and women between 25-39 years of age, with respondents spending an average of 280,300 won (US$211) on their significant other’s birthday, an increase of 12 percent from Dec. 2021.
Men used to spend more than women 12 months ago. Now, women are spending more on celebrating the special occasion with their significant other.
While those in their 30s spent less on celebrating special occasions than those in their 20s, the gap has narrowed in the last 12 months.
As for the gift that people want the most from their significant other, cash ranked first (21.4 percent), followed by electronic devices (19.7 percent), a sincere heart (19.4 percent), accessories (13 percent), clothes (11.9 percent) and bags (7.9 percent).
Men were most interested in a sincere heart, followed by electronic devices and cash, while women wanted cash the most, followed by accessories and electronic devices.
