SEOUL, March 10 (Korea Bizwire) — With a new school year underway, the number of parents buying audio recording devices for their children is increasing sharply as a way to punish offenders and collect evidence in cases of school violence.
According to Naver DataLab, the monthly shopping click index for voice recorders hit a one-year peak last month.
Setting the February figure at 100, the figure for December last year stood at 55, indicating that the number of such clicks almost doubled compared to a month ago.
Last February was the month when a new Netflix series “The Glory,” featuring the revenge story of a school violence victim, gained popularity.
The figures for January and February stood at 86 and 100, respectively, up 15 percent and 11 percent compared to a month earlier.
The most searched items were “ultra-small recorder” and “ballpoint pen-type recorder,” with 55 percent of the clickers being women, and those in their 40s accounting for the largest share.
Smartphones also have recording functions, but parents prefer ultra-small devices as they make it easier to collect evidence stealthily in case of school violence.
However, legal industry officials pointed out that recording the dialogue of other friends while putting the recorder in a classroom could be illegal.
