SEOUL, March 29 (Korea Bizwire) — About one out of four spectators for performing arts in South Korea had purchased tickets from scalpers in the past, a survey showed Tuesday.
The Record Label Industry Association of Korea conducted a survey of 572 men and women, 23.4 percent of whom said that they had bought tickets from scalpers or other unofficial sources.
In response to a question asking how much they had to pay scalpers in addition to the face value of the ticket, 45.5 percent said they paid between 10,000-50,000 won (US$7.69-38.47), while 14.1 percent paid more than 100,000 won.
The survey also found some cases of fraud or scams during the process of buying tickets from scalpers, with 11.9 percent of the respondents indicating that they could not watch the performance due to duplicate tickets, while 10.4 percent said they did not receive refunds for cancelled performances.
As for the value of losses caused by fraudulent ticket scalping, 50,000-100,000 won and 100,000-200,000 won accounted for the largest share of 28.6 percent each, followed by 500,000-1 million won (5.7 percent).
In particular, when spending increased due to additional payments for ticket scalping, 25 percent said that they were less likely to watch the performance of the singers concerned.
