SEOUL, Aug. 29 (Korea Bizwire) —The POSCO Group is undergoing a significant shift by relocating the control center of POSCO America from Atlanta to Washington, D.C. This strategic move, occurring after more than seven years, underscores the evolving landscape of its North American operations following the enactment of the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).
The comprehensive directives outlined in the IRA have exerted a notable influence on POSCO’s latest flagship venture, the secondary battery materials sector. As a result, there is a heightened recognition of the importance of effective representation and communication with the U.S. Congress and governmental bodies within the context of the North American market.
In a recent announcement, POSCO Group revealed its decision to transfer the leadership of POSCO America’s Atlanta headquarters, along with its staff, to the heart of Washington, DC.
Within the Americas, POSCO Group operates through two key subsidiaries situated in Atlanta and Washington, DC, respectively. Historically, the Atlanta office has assumed the central role in spearheading the group’s undertakings across North America.
The relocation to Atlanta in 2016 was initiated by POSCO Group as a response to the geographic proximity of its principal client, Hyundai Motor Company, which maintains a manufacturing facility in Georgia.
In recent times, POSCO Group has strategically pivoted its focus toward the realm of secondary battery materials, encompassing pivotal components like anode and cathode materials. This shift is in conjunction with the enduring prominence of its established steel business.
