SEOUL, Dec. 6 (Korea Bizwire) – The findings of a joint survey conducted by marriage information firms Only-You and Bien-Aller suggest that individuals looking to remarry most frequently engaged in disputes during their previous marriages over ‘managing household expenses’ (for men) and ‘shopping together’ (for women).

The survey, conducted from November 27 to December 2, targeted 538 individuals (269 men and 269 women) nationwide who expressed a desire to remarry.

When asked, “During your previous marriage, what activities with your partner most often led to arguments?” 27.5 percent of men responded with ‘managing household expenses,’ while 28.6 percent of women cited ‘shopping together.’

Further insights from male respondents revealed that after ‘shopping together’ (25.2 percent), other common sources of disagreements included ‘purchasing gifts for both families’ (22.3 percent) and ‘coordinating attendance at family events on both sides’ (16.4 percent). On the other hand, women, after ‘managing household expenses’ (24.2 percent), highlighted ‘coordinating attendance at family events on both sides’ (21.2 percent) and ‘purchasing gifts for both families’ (18.2 percent).

Responding to the question, “During arguments with your ex-spouse, what phrases were frequently used?” men reported hearing expressions like ‘See, I told you so’ (34.2 percent), ‘You don’t even know what you’re talking about’ (23.1 percent), and ‘You’ve been like this your whole life’ (22.6 percent). Meanwhile, women reported hearing phrases like ‘Everything you do is like that’ (30.5 percent), ‘You’ve been like this your whole life’ (25.3%), and ‘You know that you’re lucky to have a husband like me’ (20.1 percent).

When asked, “During your previous marriage, what aspects did your partner often criticize you for?” men most commonly cited ‘lifestyle habits’ (31.2 percent), while women highlighted ‘level of awareness’ (32 percent) as the top criticism.

Ranked second for both men and women was ‘attitude towards others’ (26 percent for men and 23.1 percent for women). Additional insights included men being criticized for ‘work life’ (21.2 percent) and ‘values’ (14.5 percent), while women mentioned ‘values’ (19.2 percent) and ‘lifestyle habits’ (17.1 percent) as areas of contention.
