SEOUL, Jan. 19 (Korea Bizwire) — GM Korea announced on January 18 that the Chevrolet Trailblazer, a compact sport utility vehicle (SUV), claimed the top spot in passenger car exports from Korea last year.
According to the Automotive Industry Trends report from the Korea Automobile and Mobility Industry Association (KAMA), the Trailblazer, including its derivative models, was the most exported passenger car model produced in Korea last year, with a total of 214,048 units sold in overseas markets.
The Chevrolet Trax Crossover, a compact crossover utility vehicle (CUV), ranked fourth in exports with a total of 181,950 units. The Trax Crossover, which started shipping in late February last year, has been well-received in the market.
The Trailblazer, since its launch in 2020, has been a key export model for GM Korea, with around 650,000 units sold globally to date.
The Trax Crossover is credited with revitalizing GM Korea, establishing a new segment in the Korean market by combining the best features of a sedan and an SUV into a CUV.
In December of last year, the Trax Crossover set a record for its highest monthly sales in overseas markets, selling a total of 32,248 units.
With the automotive industry’s export value reaching a record high of $70.9 billion last year, GM Korea achieved the feat of placing two models in the top five on the list of exports.
GM Korea plans to focus on strategic models like the Trailblazer and Trax Crossover to secure an annual production capacity of 500,000 units this year.
