SEOUL, April 17 (Korea Bizwire) – The practice of having executives work six days a week, previously limited to some divisions at Samsung Electronics, is now spreading to other Samsung affiliates, according to industry sources.

At Samsung Electronics, executives in certain departments like development and support have been working a six-day week. Now, electronic affiliates such as Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung SDI, Samsung SDS, and Samsung Display are following suit.

However, this move is not a top-down directive from the group’s leadership. Instead, each affiliate is voluntarily adopting the longer workweek as a measure to overcome the current crisis.

The executives at these affiliates are expected to report to work on one of the weekend days as early as this coming weekend, sources said.

As the global economic downturn persists and business uncertainties mount, companies in South Korea have been intensifying work practices for executives as part of emergency management efforts.

Earlier this year, SK Group revived Saturday meetings attended by top executives for the first time in 24 years since introducing the five-day workweek in July 2000.
