SEOUL, Dec. 3 (Korea Bizwire) – Asiana Airlines announced that starting January 2, 2025, passengers will be required to stow their carry-on luggage in the overhead bins themselves, a policy change aimed at preventing injuries to both passengers and crew.

Previously, flight attendants assisted passengers upon request, but frequent incidents of crew injuries, such as bruises to hands and arms, prompted the airline to revise its guidelines. Asiana emphasized that the new policy prioritizes the well-being of its employees.

The airline clarified that assistance will still be provided to vulnerable passengers, including those with disabilities, the elderly, and pregnant travelers.

To further enhance safety, Asiana will strictly enforce its existing weight limit for carry-on luggage, capped at 10 kilograms (22 pounds). Items exceeding this weight or deemed difficult to stow due to size must be checked at the airport counter.

Additionally, the airline has eased size restrictions for carry-on items. While the previous dimensions were limited to 40 cm x 20 cm x 55 cm, passengers can now bring items with a total linear dimension (length + width + height) of up to 115 cm, regardless of individual side lengths.

Asiana joins other South Korean carriers like Korean Air and Jin Air in requiring passengers to manage their carry-on luggage storage, except in cases where assistance is essential. Other airlines typically follow similar practices but without explicit policies.
