SEOUL, Dec. 4 (Korea Bizwire)South Korea’s largest umbrella labor group, the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), vowed Wednesday to go on an indefinite strike until President Yoon Suk Yeol steps down to take responsibility for his declaration of martial law.

“We will stand together with the people and lead the fight for the immediate resignation of President Yoon Suk Yeol,” a KCTU official said during a press conference at the group’s office.

“The KCTU’s general strike will be the starting point to settle the unequal, polarized era and open a new era that respects labor,” the official said.

Unions under the KCTU will decide individually when to launch their strikes.

KCTU members in the greater Seoul area also plan to gather at Gwanghwamun Square in the capital at 9 a.m. to protest against the administration, while those in other regions will gather at locations set by the regional chapters.

Yoon declared emergency martial law late Tuesday night, accusing opposition parties of “paralyzing” the government with “anti-state” activities but lifted it six hours later after the National Assembly voted to end it.
