SEOUL, Aug. 6 (Korea Bizwire)South Korea’s leading display makers on Wednesday unveiled strategies to overcome the industry’s so-called chasm, or temporary demand plateau, by utilizing cutting-edge organic light-emitting diode (OLED) products and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

LG Display Co. and Samsung Display Co. shared their visions during the 2025 Display Business Forum held in Seoul, where participants discussed potential opportunities in areas including mobility, AI, extended reality and digital signage.

In a keynote speech, LG Display Vice President Whang Sang-goon said the global display market is facing a slowdown due to less time spent watching TV and a declining perception of the value of buying one.

“Despite such changes, there is still demand for large screens and high-resolution displays,” Whang said, noting that sales of TVs 70 inches and larger are steadily rising.

He added that the industry should focus on the premium product market, which holds strong growth potential.

“Through this, we need to offer consumers with a wider choice of products so they can have a better product experience, which will lead to the commercialization of OLED products,” Whang said.

Samsung Display also unveiled its strategy to revitalize the display industry by harnessing AI technologies in the production process.

“Currently, a single display allows users to consume various information, making a device a key platform that connects to the everyday life of users,” Samsung Display Executive Vice President Jo Sung-chan said.

“AI technologies also play a crucial role in the display sector. Samsung SDI is also applying AI for tasks such as designing and other tasks deemed challenging,” Jo added.
