SEOUL, April 6 (Korea Bizwire) – Five new projects from Samsung Electronics’ incubation program, C-Lab, will soon launch as startups, the tech giant announced on Wednesday.
Bebefit is a smart baby carrier that makes it easier for parents to carry their children, with a “convertible hipseat” structure that allows the wearer to adjust the center of gravity from the back to the shoulders or vice versa. A macaron-shaped sensor also measures air quality for mothers to monitor whether the baby needs a diaper change.
Chikapong is a smart toothbrush that makes brushing teeth a whole lot more fun for children. It can be synced to a smartphone for children to play a “brushing” game as they clean their teeth. A sensor attached to the brush allows parents to see which areas were better cleaned than others.
Another product for children is TagPlus, a series of IoT-integrated tags to be attached to toys. With motions such as push, shake or bump for children to follow, the tags can help them better assemble toy blocks, for instance. TagPlus is expected to partner with toy makers to include its tags with new toy products.
A smart skin care solution, S-Skin, helps users receive smart skin care from home. It’s a portable device with the ability to monitor skin quality, such as dryness or skin melanin index, and comes with a micro needle patch that helps skin better absorb cosmetics.
Lumini is also a skin care product that comes with an app. It is able to analyze skin condition, predict possible skin problems and suggest the optimal cosmetics for improvement. The device films the user’s face for the analysis (acne, freckles, wrinkles, etc.) and prediction. A chat-bot will provide its recommendations based on the results.
Samsung introduced C-Lab, or Creative Lab, in December 2012 to offer its employees the opportunity to realize their creative ideas.
Several C-Lab prototypes, including the products announced Wednesday, have been showcased at international tech events such as the Consumer Electronics Show and the Mobile World Congress. A total of 25 C-Lab projects have been launched as independent startups so far.
