JUNGSUN, Aug. 31 (Korea Bizwire) – Casino resort Kangwon Land has announced plans to establish a new foundation dedicated to tackling addiction to smartphones, internet, video games and shopping.
Having held a conference on addiction treatment to assess the current situation and discuss policy last November, Kangwon Land held a seminar earlier this week at its Seoul office to bounce opinions off experts.
Based on findings from the seminar, the South Korean casino resort is expected to establish an anti-addiction foundation during the third quarter of this year, with treatment programs expected to launch next September.
Kangwon Land’s proposed addiction prevention and treatment center is said to be built on land previously occupied by Sangdong Theme Park, a facility in the region that has been abandoned for years.
“As behavioral addiction has emerged as one of the most pressing issues in society, we decided to launch a social contribution project focusing on prevention and treatment,” said Ham Seung-huie, the head of the casino resort.
Kangwon Land has garnered media coverage in the past for the success of its anti-gambling addiction program.
